My past work has involved weaving landscapes into hand dyed blankets. I have explored various aspects of the Atlantic Canadian landscape and represented those views through these warm woven wool blankets. Recent projects have involved a documentation of the colours in the land around me, showing how warm and comforting colours can be, even in a varied climate. After stepping away from blanket weaving for a few years, I have woven another series based around specific landscapes. I consider space as a defining factor of Canada's geography. Knowing the land and the area around you is an idea I explore. In particular the connections we have to the landscapes we grew up in. Taking these thoughts I have created blankets of landscapes for each member of my family. This series of handwoven, hand dyed blankets explores the importance of having faith in family. Growing up in a family with rural New Brunswick roots taught me how important family is. My family is something in my life that is always constant and will never change no matter what hardships I may go through, I have faith in that. Through this exhibition I have woven a blanket for each member of my family. I feel very attached to my family and the love I receive from them is very important to my life. Thus far in my life relationships come and go but my family is endless. Each individual blanket directly relates to each person and how I think of them. I have dyed and woven landscapes I associate with each person. After this exhibition I will present each with their blanket.
